The Gentleman Poet by Kathryn Johnson

4 stars
R- 2.5

A fascinating historical novel about the writing of Shakespeare's The Tempest!

I thought the use of the 1609 shipwreck was an excellent choice of setting and I liked the main character.  The treatment of intimacy was interesting and, I think, probably pretty true to young women of that situation and time.

I liked the characters and Elizabeth's growth as she becomes the cook for the company.

I didn't love the ending, but it definitely works.

Overall, recommended.  Especially if you love The Tempest.  (I actually think I might need to go read it now.... I'm pretty sure I read it in college and I've seen it, but I don't remember a lot.)
