Princess of the Silver Woods by Jessica Day George

5 stars
Sequel to Princess of the Midnight Ball and Princess of Glass

The 12 sisters are back, but this time it's Petunia's story.

An interesting combination of tales.... part Little Red Riding Hood, but also part Robin Hood.

I wasn't sure I was as interested in Petunia... she's so young in the first book, but I liked her a lot.

I love these books.  All three of them really need to go on my "To own" list.

Sequel to Princess of the Midnight Ball

Loved this sequel!

Poppy is highly entertaining-- I kind of wish this weren't the only book specifically about her.

A very interesting twist on Cinderella.

Read the first one first, but don't miss this one.

The Twelve Dancing Princesses is not actually a fairy tale I'm very familiar with, but I loved this treatment of it.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to read it.

Extra bonus, the cover is gorgeous.  As are the covers of the other two-- Princess of Glass and Princess of the Silver Woods (due out later this year! Hooray!)

Overall, totally recommended.  Highly enjoyed.  Stayed up too late reading it. :D

Tuesdays at the Castle by Jessica Day George

5 stars!!!
(local author!)

This is a new favorite for me!!

LOVED this adorable tale.

Princesses, Princes, conspiracies and a castle that's practically a character in its own right?!  What more could you want?

If you haven't read this, go do so.  Right now.  Then make everyone you know read it.

Dragon Spear by Jessica Day George

Oh come on, you had to have seen another Dragon review coming. :D

Once again, Jessica Day George doesn't disappoint! Creel and Luka are off to visit the dragons in their new home, with Creel's brother Hagen tagging along. (Had anyone else totally forgotten Creel had a brother? I know, I know, she mentions him from time to time, but still.)

It's only months to their wedding, so Creel has brought along her wedding dress, which she works on at the oddest times. Which is totally in character, though. So it's all good.

When Velika, the dragon queen, is kidnapped not long before she's due to lay her eggs, Creel is once again caught up in the maelstrom.

What I LOVED though, is that this time it's DRAGON politics! I thought that was a great angle. (Technically, Dragon Flight was about half dragon troubles, half human, but it was really interesting to focus solely on dragon culture.)

After flying across the world, being captured not once, but at least twice, and ruining not one, but TWO wedding dresses, will Creel finally get the wedding she wants?

(Oh of course she will, honestly. It's a happy kids book, people!)

:D

Dragon Flight by Jessica Day George

The second book in George's Dragon series, I found Dragon Flight just as delightful as Dragon Slippers!

I suppose I'm just a sucker for a girl-teams-up-with-dragon-and-kicks-butt story... These books make me think of Patricia Wrede's Enchanted Forest books. That's definitely a compliment!

Creel is frantically sewing for the crown prince's wedding, when all heck breaks loose... again. This time it's another kingdom to the south that has declared war-- with their entire army mounted on dragons!

So Creel is off to see what can be done, with a couple of our favorite dragon friends in tow! The plan is to meet up with Prince Luka, who's gone into hiding after his death was ordered in Citatie. Of course, meeting up with Luka is a bigger draw for Creel than dealing with the dragons, but she's not letting herself think about that. After all, she's just a dressmaker... and the king all but hates her.

But really, she's not thinking about that.

Soon she's up to her eyeballs in dragon intrigue, problematic politics, and trying to keep Shardas from getting himself killed in an epic battle with his psycho brother.

And she thinks she's just a dressmaker.

I Have A Confession To Make...

Okay, so technically, the name of the blog is CONFESSIONS of a Book Habitue, but this is like a guilty secret confession.

I read Dragon Slippers.

I know, it didn't win. BUT, I realized it was already on my "to read" list. Because it won a Whitney last year. And now it's a nominee for a Beehive award.

So it was sitting there begging me to check it out and read it.

And I caved.

I will still read Lost Boys. I will. It was the winning book for March. As soon as I get it from the library, I will read it.

In the meantime...

I really really enjoyed this. What can I say, I'm a total sucker for dragon books. And I LOVE Patricia Wrede's dragon books, and you can't not feel a connection. (Well, I can't anyway.)

The fun tale of Creel, a girl who strikes out on her own, Dragon Slippers has adventure, fantasy, highs, lows... everything you could want in a fantasy novel. I can absolutely see why it won a Whitney. I can't remember what it's up against for the Beehive, but it won't surprise me if it wins.

I read this in an evening. Literally. About 320 pages in... a bit less than 4 hours. Because really technically I was doing more watching NCIS than reading for the first while. (There are so many NCIS options on Monday nights.)

Anyway.

Entirely entertaining.

But Lost Boys is still definitely the winner for March. I promise. (I just cannot believe there's only one copy in the whole freakin' county.)
