sequel to The Clairvoyant Countess

Another enjoyable set of anecdotes... though this one got kind of preachy at the end.  I don't love preachy.

Once again Madame Karitska is helping those seeking her out-- especially Lieutenant Pruden-- and this time she ends up telling fortunes at a carnival, helping investigate a cult, and getting another artist started.

Many characters are back from the first book, naturally.  And many new characters are introduced.

The jump in time is kind of funny.  Both books were written with current events mentioned, and the books take place a year or so apart.  Except that the current events in one are about the Cold War and in this one it's Y2K. lol  (Her Mrs. Pollifax books do the same thing, though.)

Anyway, overall I liked it.  :)

I LOVE Dorothy Gilman.  Can't say it enough.  :)

This one, told in a series of vignets, follows Madame Karitska as she helps Lieutenant Pruden solve cases big and small.  Using her psychic talents, of course.  He may be skeptical, but there's no quibbling with the results.  From organized crime to "witches", voodoo to stolen crosses, Madame Karitska has a bead on whatever's going on.

There's also a sequel, which I need to get from the library. 

Really a perfect light summer read.  I highly recommend it.

A Nun in the Closet by Dorothy Gilman

In the same vein as the Mrs. Pollifax books, this is the story of two nuns who leave the cloister to venture out into the world.  Why?  Well, because some random man left the abbey an estate and someone must go take inventory.

Enter some "hippies", Sister Ursula, migrant workers, a rotten sheriff and several jars of "sugar" and Sisters John and Hyacinthe had better learn something of the world... and fast!

Really just a fun and funny read.  I love the nuns.

Totally recommended.  Quick and light.  :)
