Now I'm dying to know why it's been banned in some libraries! I've read it, but what did I miss? What am I forgetting?
And how on earth could anyone ban The Giver?????????? That's positively criminal.
Apparently people balked about the use of the word "scrotum." Bah!
ReplyDeleteAs for The Giver, I believe parents had a problem with the euthanasia and suicide of the sick and elderly. And the bathtub dream part made a few people blush.
It makes my heart hurt . . . I LOVE both those books.

ReplyDeleteI can see parents being concerned, I guess, but it's not like 2nd graders are reading it. We read it in class in like 5th or 6th grade. Really, by that age kids these days are exposed to a whole lot worse.
Makes me wonder sometimes if these same parents are as picky about what their kids watch. I would hope that their concern is not limited to what books teachers are introducing to their kids.
