WHY is it that BOOKS are so much Creepier....

Than TV or movies??

Really.  Is it just me?  Am I the only one that gets way more freaked out by a creepy book than a creepy show?

Yesterday I reviewed Skin and Bones by DC Corso and I couldn't finish reading it in a day.... because it was too late at night and it was creepy.

Yet I can watch Criminal Minds anytime... day or night.**

Which got me thinking.  What the heck is up with that?

I think it's the imagination factor-- my imagination is totally engaged when I'm reading.  I'm picturing stuff.  I'm internalizing.

With shows, they've done some of the work for me.  I'm watching it, so I don't need to imagine, right?

Am I nuts?  Does any of that make sense?

So I want to know-- are YOU more creeped out by books or shows??  Why do YOU think that is???

Seriously, I want to know.

**Except when pregnant.  Totally can't watch it at night while pregnant.  Dreams are too funky.

  1. I think it's books are all in your head. So you are living out the action with your imagination as opposed to movies or TV where it is outside of you.

  2. I don't think I read enough creepy books to even know. What are some good ones that have really creeped you out?

  3. Andrea you said it so much more succinctly than I could. I think that's it exactly.

Kim I honestly don't read a ton of them either, but Skin and Bones was good and Forty-Eight X. Some of Mary Higgins Clark's are that way too. You know, that creepy "it's dark and maybe there's someone hiding behind the shower curtain" feeling? Or am I the only one that gets that? ;)

  4. I'll be honest that it's usually movies that scare me more. With a book, I can usually walk away without the scary stuff in my mind in a permanent replaying visual image. I don't watch scary movies anymore. Really. But, I find I'm particularly affected by scary stuff in any form, so I don't read a lot of scary books either.

  5. I wonder if it has something to do with learning style?
