When this arrived in the mail, I was really starting to regret agreeing to review it.  The cover really put me off.  You know me, I don't do romances.  I got sucked in on the historical/past life part of the description, but the cover had me really worried.

As a result, I didn't pick it up to read it until I really HAD to-- to get this review written on time.

And you know what, the historical/past life stuff was great and I got totally sucked it.

There were several overly flowery descriptions that I just kind of rolled my eyes and skimmed, but overall I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I was going to.

It did feel off balance, though.  Kate's life (the present) just so completely swallowed up in Catriona's life (the past).  Probably intentional, but throughout much of the book I was wondering if I was supposed to really care about Kate's life and then at the end it felt too Catriona-heavy after things were more or less resolved.

I did love the history.

All in all, though, it was an interesting read.
