Most Quoted Movie of ALL Time

Okay, I know, this is off-topic, but I'm curious.

My husband and I caught part of The Princess Bride on tv the other night. I made the comment that it's probably the most quoted movie ever.

He said it's in the top 100.... I'm thinking more like the top 3.

I mean, come on-- "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." Hardly a day of 6th grade went by without me saying that! :D I was even Inigo for Halloween. (My friend was Wesley as the Man in Black. Yes, we were nerds. And cross-dressers, apparently. But, really, who wants to be Buttercup?)

So I'll put it to you, is The Princess Bride the most quoted movie ever? Or does something else take top honors? Either way, it's in the top 3, right?

"It's possible, pig."

:D

  1. Hey, I quote that movie all the time.
"Stop that rhyming and I mean it!"
    "Anybody want a peanut?"

Or there's always, "I'm not a witch I'm your wife, and after what you just said I'm not sure I want to be that anymore!"

I'll agree, it is the most quotable movie.

  2. (We watched Princess Bride with my then 10 year old. She indicated that it was OK, her usual response.

Since then, she's requested to watch it again with 2 of her friends, and they came up with some questions they wanted to check out the answers to :-).

Anyway, I'll at least go for top 10 quoted movies.

Monty Python & the Holy Grail is also up there-- most of the other MP quotes I can think of are from the TV show, not the movie.

Hmmm. Top 3 could well be reasonable.

  3. "Anybody want a peanut?" I love it!

And there's always "Bye bye boys! Have fun storming the castle!" "Think it'll work?" "It would take a miracle." "Bye bye!" :D That's what my computer used to say on shutdown.

Ah yes, Monty Python. That was the other movie we thought of as a contender for the most-quoted. I could quote most of the movie before I ever saw it!

  4. We love quoting it at our house too. Everyone time someone leaves, my husband loves to wave like crazy and say, "Have fun storming the castle!"
