One of the quotes on the cover says that David Almond is "Roald Dahl's rightful heir" and I gotta say: I totally agree.
This book is bizarre in the best Roald Dahl-ish way.
I'm honestly not even sure how to describe it, other than to say that it starts with a little boy who sometimes thinks the moon is really just a hole in the sky and it gets stranger from there.
A quick read that is totally worth it.
Boo's Review:
10 stars
It's Roald Dahl-ish and it's quick and easy without too many hard words. It's got a host of queer characters.
[Mommy note: first of all, the first few words there say a ton, because Boo LOVES and ADORES all things Roald Dahl. Secondly, no, I did not coach her on that second sentence AT ALL. That is totally how she talks. Gotta love this kid!]
Habitué [Fr. a-BEE-twey]-- noun 1. Devotee 2. a frequent visitor to a place 3. denizen

Bookclub read
This is one of Boo's FAVORITE books. She's read it so many times I've lost count. (Though probably not quite as many times as Fantastic Mr. Fox.)
I had read it before, but not for a LONG time, so I was excited to read it again for my book club.
And I still loved it. I just think it's a fun tale.
Boo says it's "realistic fiction". I tried to point out that it's not by asking her if people really develop super powers like that.
Her response: "But Jesus gave her a miracle to help her teacher."
I had no reply for that one.
Anyway, good book. :)

Roald Dahl!!
So September is Roald Dahl month and Boo has certainly been taking that seriously.
In fact, the other night I saw her get to the end of The Witches... and then flip right back to page 1 and start over.
She's also read Revolting Rhymes and Danny Champion of the World and The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me, three that I haven't read yet. Clearly I need to get on the ball.
Not to mention the Charlie books.... I haven't read those either.
What's YOUR FAVORITE ROALD DAHL book??
(*If you're curious what else Boo is reading, I started a "Boo's Books" shelf on Goodreads.)
